Privacy Policy

Pit Companion is made by SCENE IN THE DARK ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. It is written to be plain and honest.

What the app stores

Everything you enter, your logged shows, camera settings, gear list, venues, and prep checklist, is saved locally on your device only. It never leaves your phone unless you choose to export or share a card yourself. If you delete the app, this data is removed.

Photos

When you tap "Import settings from a photo", the app asks permission to open a photo you pick. It reads only the technical EXIF data attached to that photo (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, date, camera and lens model) to fill in your log. The app does not upload the photo, copy it, or read your wider photo library. The reading happens on your device.

The optional Community (accounts)

The Community is opt-in. If you create an account we use Supabase (our backend provider) to store your email address for sign-in and the content you choose to post: show reports, tips, camera settings, an optional display name, and any photos you upload. Posts can be made anonymously, but they are still tied to your account on our servers so we can enforce the rules. You can report or block other users, and you can delete your own posts. Photos you upload to the Community are stored on our backend and shown publicly in the app. This is separate from photos attached to a private log entry, which stay on your device.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your contacts, precise location, advertising identifiers, or usage analytics, and we do not sell your data. The app contains no advertising and no third-party advertising trackers.

This website is the same: no analytics, no cookies, and no third-party trackers. If you join the launch mailing list, we store only the email you give us, and only to tell you when the app launches. You can unsubscribe any time.

Children

Pit Companion is intended for a general audience of photographers and is not directed at children under 13.

The app and this site link to sceneinthedark.com. Once you leave, the privacy practices of that site or any other site apply.

Moderation

Because the Community carries content from other people, the app includes a way to report posts, block users, and agree to community guidelines before posting. We remove content and accounts that break the rules.

Future versions

A later version may add cloud backup of your private log. Any new data use will be described here before it turns on, and cloud features will remain opt-in.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date above and post the new version here.
